IcareK-9 is excited to launch a brand new feature on our blog this month – the iCareK-9 Dog of the Month. Each month we will feature one of the dogs that is part of our dog training program. You’ll get to learn all about the dog of the month and their proud and much loved family. Each story will give you a peek into their lives, what brought them to iCareK-9 and where they are now.
Our debut star is Reba. She’s a mixed-breed (part bluetick coonhound, border collie and lab) discovered by her family through a foster that worked with the Arlington, Virginia Animal Shelter. Her owner, Debbie and her family had always had dogs, but their last one had passed two years prior and this was the perfect opportunity to bring a new dog into the family.
Debbie owns a music studio in Gaithersburg, Maryland and her husband is a general contractor. Debbie needed to be able to bring Reba to work with her and make sure that she safely interacted with the students, ranging in age from 3 to 93. She looked online, found iCareK-9 and called AnneMarie Hursh to discuss options. Debbie was impressed right away by the depth and breadth of knowledge that Annemarie shared. She set up 3 private lessons where dog trainer Morris Lindesey would come to Debbie’s music studio to train Reba there. This way Morris could tailor her training to exactly the scenario that Debbie needed. These lessons were so successful that Debbie decided on more lessons both at the studio and at her home in Silver Spring, Maryland so she could incorporate her husband into the training.
Debbie and Reba have now joined the Saturday morning Club Classes to continue with their training. Debbie is thrilled to share that she now runs four miles a day, four or five days a week with Reba and has absolutely no issues. “She has become my running and work companion and this is all due to Morris and Annemarie”, says Debbie. “iCareK-9 is now my second family, as I have a feeling we will be with them for a very long time!”
